Andrew "Andy" Keaton is the youngest child of Elyse and Steven Keaton. His siblings are Alex, Mallory and Jennifer. He is heavily influenced by Alex who molds him into an economics-oriented conservative.

Andy was born in Season 3 due to Meredith Baxter-Birney becoming pregnant in real life.

Throughout the series[]

Season 3[]

Andy was possibly conceived during a weekend at a bed and breakfast.[3] Early in Season 3, Elyse learns that she's pregnant, much to her surprise, as she was told that she probably wouldn't be able to have any more kids after Jennifer was born. In Birth of a Keaton: Part 1, Elyse goes into labor a month early at WKS during a blizzard. She isn't able to get to the hospital, so in Birth of a Keaton: Part 2, Dr. Alexander delivers the baby at the station. At the time of his birth, his parents still haven't chosen a name, but by the next episode, they've decided on "Andrew." After Andy is born, the whole family quickly shows affection and a loving attitude towards him, especially Alex who attempts to mold him into a Republican just like him.

In Family Ties Vacation, Andrew comes down with a cold and is left with Kate Donnelly while the rest of the family goes to London.

Season 4[]

In this season, Andy is a somewhat larger baby who's still played by the Merriman twins. He's in a play group with Ralph and Betty Boswell's son Timmy. Andy is a typical baby, but Steven worries that he's developmentally behind schedule.

Season 5[]

Andy is aged up from 1 to 4 over the summer of 1986. Now played by Brian Bonsall, he starts attending Harper Preschool. He serves as milk monitor in 1987.[4]

Season 6[]

Andy starts attending Greenvale Elementary School. His teacher is Mrs. Nelson.[5]

Season 7[]

Andy's first grade teacher is Miss Van Gelder. He plays a permanent molar in the class play The Whole Tooth, and Nothing But the Tooth.[6]

Trivia[]

  • His pediatrician is Dr. Gordon.[7]
