"Elyse D'Arc" is the twenty-second and final episode in the first season of the NBC family sitcom Family Ties. It originally aired on April 11, 1983, and is the twenty-second episode of the series overall.

Synopsis[]

Steven and Elyse clash when her busy schedule and numerous commitments keep them from spending any time together.

Plot[]

Elyse is organizing a group in opposition of rezoning the town.  Steven wins the Midwest Regional Murray Award for outstanding documentary, "The Egret's Regret".  Unfortunately, Elyse is too busy to celebrate with Steven (even when he cooks a special dinner at home).  To make up for it, Elyse plans a quiet evening alone for them (and then her rezoning committee shows up and a thunderstorm kicks up).

Trivia[]

  • The title is a play on "Joan of Arc".
  • Elyse and Steven finally are able to sit down to dinner together, and they keep getting interrupted by Bernice (played by Belita Moreno) making coffee. Aren't there two ways out of the kitchen: the back that goes into the dining room, and the front that goes directly to the living room?
  • This was the final episode to have a beardless Steven Keaton (Michael Gross).
  • Elyse also plays the too-busy mom in "Here We Go Again" and "Super Mom".
  • Belita Moreno also appears in "The Disciple".
  • Bernice sings "As Time Goes By" while Steven and Elyse try to be close.
