"Just One Look" is the ninth episode in the fourth season of the NBC family sitcom Family Ties. It originally aired on December 5, 1985, and is the seventy-seventh episode of the series overall.
Synopsis[]
Steven and Elyse are nostalgically excited by a visitor he arranged: Richie Schofield, an old housemate from their Berkeley hippie days - which the kids find just silly, even embarrassingly. However, Elyse and Richie share memories of their time without Steven, who is not amused to find out 22 years later that they had a brief romance while he was working in Alaska during a break from their relationship. Sleeping in the hall makes the jealous husband even crankier. The trio has a restaurant dinner, during which he loses control. As Steven contemplates his outburst and emotions, Alex reminds him of his own life lessons.
Plot[]
An old college friend of Steven's, Richie Schofield (played by Robert Desiderio) comes to dinner. Back at Berkeley in 1963, he and Elyse apparently were closer than Steven (who was away in Alaska) remembers. Steven is quite upset that Elyse had never told him about this relationship (though he'd been the one that suggested that while he was away that they should see other people). Steven and Elyse have an intense and nostalgic discussion as they figure out all that's happened.
