Lorraine Ferrar is a 39-year-old woman who works as an arbitrageur. She comes from France and enjoys ice skating, swing music, and Swedish art films.
Background[]
Lorraine used to be married to a man who didn't love her. They tried to make the marriage last as long as they could for the sake of their daughter Melissa, but eventually had a messy divorce.
On the series[]
Lorraine hears Alex working as a DJ for Harding High School's radio station, WHSH. She calls in to correct a factual error. Alex asks her on a date, and she accepts. Once they meet in person, Alex is surprised to discover that she's almost forty. However, they strike up a mostly-platonic friendship. Lorraine teaches Alex to skate and tries to introduce him to the movies she likes. She feels happier and more alive with Alex than she has in years. Alex starts spending so much time with her that he neglects his schoolwork and his friendships with kids his own age. Finally Steven and Elyse confront her and tell her to stop spending time with Alex. Alex is furious with his parents, and the next time he's at WHSH, he plays a marathon of covers of "Sweet Lorraine" until Lorraine comes to the station to talk to him. She tells him that they can still see each other from time to time, but that Alex should date girls his own age and act like a teenager.
In Return of the Native, Alex says that he and Lorraine have lost track of each other.
